John Wadley born circa 1788 is the presumed father of my great-great-grandmother Olliff Wadley. He is listed in the 1841 and 1851 censuses as a farmer. His son Enoch Wadley carried on farming in Birtstreet (or Birts Street).

Ancestors
John Wadley's ancestors are of current interest - we do not know who his parents were. We know a little more about his wife Anne Jakeman whom he married on Oct 5th 1809.

John had at least seven children: Betty c1812, Martha c1815, George c1825 or c1827, Caroline c1826 or c1829, Adelaide c1832, Enoch c1836 and Olliff in 1837.
Of these children of other branches further traces of the families of Caroline and Enoch have been researched.

John appears on the 1851 census at home in Birts Street, Birtsmorton as head of the household. The census image is mis-aligned at GR so I do not have the original (it turns up unrelated pages) but the transcription information shows the following in the household, as far as I can tell.

The other children Betty (39), Martha (36), George (26) and Adelaide (20) are not present in the family home at this census.
1861
This is the last census entry for John Wadley that I can locate. He is 74. Presumably he didn't make it to the next census in 1871.
